Hi,
So I'm getting into this whole - you are what you believe mindset now. Why? Because I believe that we are spiritual beings having a physical experience, as opposed to physical beings having a spiritual experience. Spiritual principles are talked about in everyday life, for example the Buddhist doctrine of Karma. 2000 years ago Jesus said, Whatever you want people to do you, do it to them. In Australian "What Goes Around, Comes Around".
What got me started on this train of thought? I was listening to an audio-book and they were raving on and on and on about the usual abundance theories and how these underlying spiritual principles are in such opposition to our western consumerist culture. What stood out to me on this particular occasion was a section on motivation.
The authors were doing the whole thesis thing (extreme opposites), trying to describe what motivates us as human beings. I thought it was insightful and went something like this ...
People are motivated by two completely different reasons.
1. To escape pain. The motivation is to get away from a situation that causes us emotional pain, mental stress, physical danger etc.etc. As this type of person gets further away from the source of pain their motivation begins to drop off.
2. Toward pleasure. The motivation is to attain something worthwhile, something that will bring us pleasure, feed us spiritually, help us to sleep at night etc.etc. As this type of person gets closer to their goal their motivation increases.
I can see how escaping pain will actually stop me achieving my business goals in 2014. So I am sitting down to recast the things that motivate me into positive, pleasurable, attractive and dynamic goals. Events that will excite me the closer I get to them. I hope you can do the same too!
